Science Experiment: Making Crystals

We started this experiment on Monday, and I posted the start. I'm happy to report... we MADE CRYSTALS! Noelle absolutely LOVED this experiment. Everyday she'd beg for me to show her the experiment (several times during the day). And every time I showed them to her, she'd look in and say "wow!" It was so cute.

So, to recap, this is what it looks like on day 1:

This is day 3. Crystals were forming everywhere (the pipe cleaner, the pencil, the cup), but there was still quite a bit of water left.
And today (Day 5) we had LOTS of Crystals, and NO WATER!

Noelle just freaked. She loved it!

And so did her big sister, Melanie!

I cleaned the cup (which was also covered in salt crystals) and the pencil. Then I was able to take the pipe cleaner off. It is currently hanging up in Melanie's room (at least for a few days). What a fun science experiment. Melanie has been really curious about evaporation and the weather. I know this didn't teach her anything about the weather or rain, but it did teach her something about evaporation. We had a long talk about where the water went. It was fun.
