Today I decided to do some messy creations with the girls. Both of them took a little prep work. First, we made some wall art for their rooms (and eventually their room... as in a few months they will be sharing a room). While they were napping, I cut out and laid out vinyl letters on each of the white canvases. (I decided after the first one, it was easier to put the vinyl letters directly onto the canvas then onto transfer paper... because it doesn't transfer.)
Then, when the girls woke up, I let them PAINT! (That's one of Noelle's favorite words. I pulled out a "paint shirt" for her, and she freaked out... bouncing up and down, stomping her feet, and yelling "paint"! It was too cute!)
They got to paint everything, all over, as messy as they wanted. Now... if I had thought this through, I would have remembered to put the paper down first, like I typically do. I was just too excited about the project and flat out wasn't thinking. Live and learn, and I did learn that the paint will come off the table, but it does take elbow grease.
Materials:
Ice block (I made my own with an empty water jug), salt, liquid watercolors, tray (or something to put the ice on that can hold water/liquid)
Method:
1. put the ice on the tray
2. put salt on the ice
3. put liquid watercolors on ice
4. repeat
The salt will change the melting point of the ice and "bore" holes into the ice which is made visible by the paint traveling through it (This is my scientific explanation... just smile and nod).
My scientists are all ready to go!
