1st day of Preschool
All morning I have heard "First day of School! First day of School!" It was almost like I was listening to the sound track of Finding Nemo over and over. But today, it wasn't Nemo starting school, it was Melanie!

Attacked by Hearts
We have slowly decorated our house for Valentines Day, but it will not enough. So yesterday, we threw it into overdrive.
Melanie really got involved in the decorating fun. First she mixed and kneaded some dough.
Rolled it out, and cut out hearts. Lots and Lots of hearts!
They baked for 2 hours, so we found other things to do. After the 2 hours were up, we PAINTED! (Isn't painting so much fun? We really should do it more often)
They are sit, drying.
Then (while Melanie was sleeping) mom hot glued them onto magnets and tacks. They are just too cute!Posted by Brandon and Camille Smithson at 1:35 PM 1 comments

Advice for Snow White
A few days ago, well after bed time, I walked past Melanie's door and noticed her sitting up in her bed struggling to do something. I came in and found her putting on her church shoes under the blankets. I told her she couldn't wear her shoes while she slept because if she accidentally kicked her leg, it would really hurt (her shoes had a little heel and it's a little sharp). She got a little upset and informed me that Snow White slept with her shoes on, and she wants to be a princess too. We decided that Princess Melanie could wear a pair of socks instead of shoes and it would work just fine.

Well, today is movie Friday, and I let her pick. She picked Snow White. At the end of the movie, Snow White was, sure enough, sleeping with her shoes on. Melanie got all bashful and whispered to me that she wanted to tell Snow White not to sleep with her shoes on. I told her to go ahead. She was so embarrassed, she said she wanted me to help her. Finally she got up the courage, walked up to the TV, and giggled/whispered to Snow White "You shouldn't wear shoes to bed, you could get hurt". Just then Snow White woke up to her prince Charming. Melanie was so happy she got to tell Snow White the lesson she learned. I wonder what will happen next time we watch and Snow White STILL has her shoes on. I suppose we'll find out next Friday.

I Scream for Ice Cream
Golly, you give these girls ice cream and crazy things start to happen. First, they make a mess (boy howdy)

Lava Lab and More...
We got the cultural pass to the Science Center again, and this time we took daddy!
Unfortunately, my camera was acting up, so I didn't get very many pictures, but here are some I did get. They had a demonstration while we were there. It was the Lava Lab. The gentle man giving the presentation was demonstrating the difference between an aggressive lava flow (think Mt. Saint Helen) and a slow moving lava flow (think Hawaii).
Melanie was able to assist in the lab. First, she got to demonstrate how heavy (or light) pumice (lava rock) is.

Then she got to mix all the yeast and water for the slow moving lava reaction (yeast, water, and 20% hydrogen peroxide)
Then Melanie got to demonstrate how lava rocks float in water.
I'm so happy I got the next pictures on camera before my camera decided not to work. This exhibit has always given me a hard time. I have pedaled and pedaled and that ball had NEVER moved (seriously). So I bet Brandon that he won't be able to get the ball to move, and in about 30 seconds he proves me wrong.
So, of course, I had to try it again. At first, that ball wasn't moving. Then all the sudden... UP IT GOES! So... I yelled "take a picture!" So there you have it, proof!
And of course, we couldn't go to the science center without making dad levitate on a bed of nails. Unfortunately, the camera stopped working while Noelle was on the bed of nails solo. I really wish I got that picture!

There were a few more exciting things at the Science Center that we did that I had never done before. The Digital World has some really neat things. They have this exhibit where you can take a picture and then mutate it. We took a picture of all of us (faces) and then made it all crazy. And, of course, I couldn't take a picture of the picture. (stink'n camera!)
It was a lot of fun. If you see that cultural pass, grab it. You won't regret it!
