Melanie's school held a family pumpkin decorating contest. You could enter one pumpkin per family, and it had to be decorated to fit a children's book. The only stipulations were that the pumpkin could not be carved and it couldn't have anything dangerous on it. As a group, we discussed all the possibilities. Melanie was really leaning towards Cinderella, but I finally convinced her to move away from princesses... and she picked Pinkalicious... specifically, how she looks on the cover of Goldilcious. So, we bought a pumpkin (a fake one actually) and got to painting. Because it was a family affair, I let both girls paint the pumpkin. First they painted the face and hair colors.
Then I hot glued all this raffia that I had left over from last Halloween onto the pumpkin. Note to self, next year we will not be hot gluing raffia onto a pumpkin! Ouch! After adding her princess hat, Melanie painted on her face.
Ta - Da! It's Pinkalicious!
Melanie loved seeing her pumpkin in the library for 2 weeks on display with all the other pumpkins. She even won an award for "Most Accurate Representation of a Character". Way to go, girlie! It was definitely a fun family activity... (And now, for our next family activity, we can rob a bank, as I no longer have finger prints. Okay, I'm kidding...)
Pinkalicious is currently on display at our doorway as part of our Halloween decorations. Happy Halloween!
