Apple Picking!

Have you ever climbed a tree and picked an apple?  I haven't either!  But now, thanks to our cousin, Shelly, Melanie has!  Melanie LOVED it (talked about it for hours afterwards).  And we loved the apples!  Shelly spoiled us completely with fresh apples, tomatoes, and a watermelon from her garden.  Everything was so yummy!

Preston enjoyed taste testing all the produce!

Thank you, Shelly, for the yummy produce and for some adult conversation!

Flowers

I was going through my pictures to print some out for a family activity tonight, and found these pictures, taken on Saturday. They were so cute, I couldn't believe I missed them before.

Saturday was General Conference... but between sessions, it was a family gardening day. This time, we planted flowers (something we haven't done in quite some time). The girls were so excited, and such great helpers.

It's nice to have something pretty growing in our backyard again (though I am sad that we had to get rid of a few of my favorite plants... but they were getting old and starting to die, so I understand).
I love this picture of Melanie and Noelle working as a team to water the flowers.

Eventually, daddy started watering the daughters.

It was definitely fun. In case you are wondering, I did help with this project... there is just a lack of proof. Actually, sometimes I think there is a lack of proof of my existence because there just isn't any pictures of me at any of these activities... I'm working on my husband with this. We'll see. :)

It's Alive!

My garden has a MIND of it's OWN! I love my garden, but every day I go out there and laugh. So, hopefully I can explain this so that everyone can truly appreciate the humor.

This season I planted carrots, brussell sprouts, zucchini, squash, and cucumber... nothing else. I did, however, have 3 existing, well established bell pepper plants.

I did not; however, plant this lettuce (or the 3 other heads I have growing in my garden). I planted lettuce last fall.

This watermelon plant... it just showed up this month. I had watermelon last spring.

These 3 additional bell pepper plants... they are new.

And the follow tomato plants... they are the result of Brandon cutting up an old tomato and throwing it into the garden to help the soil... ha ha! There are 3 large plants, and I'm still pulling new tomato plants out all the time

I have figured that if it isn't a weed, I'll let the plant grow a bit (assuming it's not in a weird location) until I know what it is. Then I'll decide to keep it or pull it. I have pulled several lettuce plants, additional watermelon plants, and tomato. They just keep coming.

Speaking of things that are coming... I see a harvest in my future. Check out how beautiful the flowers on the zucchini plant are. I didn't take a picture of the squash, but we have several that are getting pretty big!

Hello cucumber! (The plant is blooming like crazy, and I have spotted 2 other cucumbers about this size)

And hello bell peppers... I think there are about 30, and some of them are already turning colors (we have 1 yellow, 1 red, and 1 orange bell pepper plants)

Yum! I think it's going to be a yummy summer!
