Oliver has to be the funniest little dude I have ever met. He is way too cute for his own good. Here are some little stories about my little man lately.
On Friday, Oliver was waiting for dad to come in. Brandon was outside, working on his truck. Oliver so badly wanted to join his dad, but it wasn't a safe time. I sat on the chair next to the window and held the little man on my lap. We started playing a "buggy" game. He would tell me there is a bug somewhere, and we would try to scare it away. We played this game for quite some time. So, on Saturday, when Oliver kept telling me there were bugs in his ears, I didn't take him too seriously. I figured it was a continuation of the game from the day before. It wasn't until later in the day that we started to second guess him... Brandon ended up taking him to twilight pediatrics and it turned out he had a double ear infection.
So, jump to Sunday. Obviously, Oliver wasn't church going material, so I stayed home with the little boys. He was so uncomfortable, I gave him some ear numbing stuff and he instantly calmed down. A few hours later, he comes up to me.
Oliver: "Mom... I need more buggy killer".
I put more ear numbing stuff on, and he was a happy man. It was too cute.
Then, of course, I wrapped him up like a burrito and gave him lots of loves.
Monday afternoon, at around 3:00 pm, I received a phone call from Brandon. He was calling to tell me he would need to take a trip to Gila Bend. Right when he tells me this, Oliver got mad at Melanie and proceeded to rip up the thing she was working on. It wasn't a happy moment at the Smithson house. I told Brandon I would have to call him back, got off the phone, and had a conversation with Mr. Red. I called Brandon back up and asked him what his plan was. He told me he had a few more things he needed to do, then he would come by the house, switch vehicles, and take Oliver with him. Apparently, my Uncle Brant had a truck loaded with cows that was broke down, and Brandon had to fix it ASAP to get those cows back on the road. So, that's what he did. He loaded up Oliver and out they went.
When he got home, he told me that Oliver was the funniest little co-worker he has ever had. He cat napped on the way there, then was right by Brandon during the repair. He enjoyed the cows and loved the big truck. On the say home, they stopped in Chandler, by the mall, for dinner. They stopped at a place called Five Guys. Apparently (and I have never been there before) the music at Five Guys is blasted pretty loudly. Brandon says that Oliver was JAMMING out! He was just dancing along to the music. Brandon and Oliver were the only patrons in the place, so Brandon just let him.
After the restaurant, Brandon headed over to the mall to pick up my oil (side story... I was lucky in October and won a free 100 mL bottle of Olive Oil from the Oil and Vinegar store... every month, for a year. Sweet, right?). Brandon says he carried Oliver through the store (too many breakables) but as soon as he put him down in the mall, Oliver was dancing and jamming again. They walked (danced) to the door. Standing by the door was a younger woman. Oliver stopped dancing, and (very loudly) asked the women: "Hey, wanna watch a movie with us?"
Apparently the lady laughed, and Brandon grabbed Oliver and left. I told Brandon that if he were a single man, Oliver would be the prefect wing man. Good heavens!

The following day (Tuesday), Brandon had a light schedule and decided to take Oliver with him. They went to Freightliner to see if some of Brandon's parts are in. Brandon must have let Oliver walk around, because (as Brandon tells it), Brandon heard Oliver call out: "Okay, I got it! We can go!"
Brandon asks: "Got what?"
Oliver says: "Got my tools. I got'em. We can go!"
Apparently the cuteness of the whole thing was on Oliver's side, because Brandon bought the tools and let Oliver have them. Brandon says Oliver wouldn't even let Brandon carry them. Oliver carried this box all the way out to the truck.
And he got right to work.
I suppose the benefit of Oliver having his own tools is, perhaps, he'll stop finding all dad's screw drivers and hammers and hang on to them for dear life. Perhaps he will just use his own.
Well, a mom can dream.
